Scholarship Awards and Installation Luncheon

The San Mateo Branch awarded 6 Ethel Gayman Endowment Scholarships to students at the local community colleges. The Branch Board for 2008-2009 was installed.

Treatment of Incarcerated Women

County Supervisor Adrienne Tissier, Shirley La Marr, director of the women's jail program "Choices" and Lt. Deborah Bazan of the County Sheriff's Dept. spoke to us regarding conditions in the women's jail.

Women as Subjects of Art

Docent Kay Payne of the Fine Arts Museums of SF presented a slide show portraying how women have been presented in art over the years.

AAUW members and guests were entertained by Hope Briggs singing selections "From Gospel to Gershwin". The annual event was catered by Klaus Wuehrer of Danish French Catering.

Ron Galatolo, Chancellor of the San Mateo Community College District, and Olivia Singh, chair of CA Postsecondary Education Commission, spoke to our group.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

Debra Watkins spoke of a Bay Area program to encourage girls to consider college. Our Tech Trek campers told us about their experiences and our Drama section read Chehov's "The Bear".
